一、                      两个完整句子之间使用逗号,分隔

错误示例：It was raining hard, they could not work in the fields.

这一英文标点符号常见错误是受到了中文逗号用法的影响。但实际上，两个完整英文句子之间必须有连词，如and，but等，或者可以用分号;

正确示例：It was raining hard, and they could not work in the fields.

It was raining hard. They could not work in the fields.

It was raining hard; they could not work in the fields.

It was raining so hard that they could not work in the fields.

二、                      英文出现顿号和书名号

英文标点没有顿号（、），也没有书名号（《》）！这一英文标点符号常见错误也是中国学生写作时经常混淆的。

英文中多个并列结构用逗号（,）分隔。

英文中的印刷体用斜体字表示书籍、报刊、戏剧、电影、绘画作品等的名称，而非书名号。

错误示例：I like reading books、listening to music、watching TV、and studying English.

正确示例：I like reading books, listening to music, watching TV, and studying English.

错误示例：My favorite books including 《Gone with the Wind》、《Pride and Prejudice》 and 《To Kill A Mockingbird》.

正确示例：My favorite books including Gone with the Wind, Pride and Prejudice and To Kill A Mockingbird.

三、                      英文的省略号书写错误

英文中的省略号只有三个点，且是三个句号，不是中文省略号的一半。

示例：I got so into preparing meals that I started to make lunch for my mom and homemade treats for my dogs...（对比中文省略号⋯⋯）

四、                      英文的连字符、破折号混用

1、       连字符（Hyphen）

连字符用于把两个或更多的单词连在一起组成复合词，且hyphen的前后不用空格。

示例： face-to-face, well-know, a 10-year-old boy, twenty-two

2、       短破折号 （En Dash）

表达 " 从……到…… " 的意思，主要连接数字或单词，相当于to

示例：My life at university, 2011–2015, was so memorable.

表达两者之间的关系。 

示例：mother–daughter relationship

代替连字符。当合成词的其中一部分本身就是合成词，这时需要用短破折号代替连字符。

示例：Pre–Civil War era（后内战时代，Civil War本身就是个合成词）

3、       破折号 （Em Dash）

解释说明

During the first week, I would email my mom every five minutes and get furious when she didn't answer right away—scared that something had happened, when in reality it was all fine.

代替逗号使用，强调内容

And yet, when the car was finally delivered⁠—nearly three months after it was ordered⁠—she decided she no longer wanted it, leaving the dealer with an oddly equipped car that would be difficult to sell.

表示引用

表示话没说完，被打断，类似于省略号。

Maybe she likes—yes, she definitely likes me.

代替冒号，强调句子的结论，但没有冒号正式。
